What is it?
Improved Forest Management entails protecting and actively managing forests that store carbon. This generates both carbon avoidance and carbon removal credits as the forest protection avoids emissions that would have occurred from deforestation and the forest management increases the natural carbon sequestration process.
Similar to other nature-based solutions, forests are vulnerable to wildfires, disease, drought, and human activity, all of which can quickly release stored carbon back into the atmosphere. For this reason, the permanence of forest-based carbon credits is considered relatively low unless accompanied by strong long-term protection measures.

What does Deduci think?
Improved Forest Management combines the benefits of deforestation prevention and active forest management to both avoid future emissions and remove atmospheric carbon. It is a popular option for North American buyers as there are numerous projects throughout the US and Canada.
