What is it?
The ocean already absorbs about a quarter of all human CO₂ emissions, making it one of Earth’s most important natural carbon sinks. Marine CDR refers to a range of techniques designed to enhance this natural process, including adding alkaline minerals to seawater, stimulating the growth of marine algae, or artificially upwelling deep water to the surface.
While the potential scale is enormous, the science is still evolving and the long-term permanence is uncertain. Ocean currents can transport and eventually release stored carbon back into the atmosphere, and the ecological risks of large-scale intervention in marine ecosystems are not yet fully understood.

What does Deduci think?
Marine CDR has great potential, but its current capacity makes it a better fit for mature buyers looking to lock in future credits through an offtake agreement. Buyers should understand each technique within the Marine CDR umbrella prior to purchasing.
